BOOK LAUNCH OMAPERE, HOKIANGA, NEW ZEALAND - 13TH JANUARY 2019
The Hokianga Historical Society Museum

A large group of Members of the Historical Society and residents and visitors to the Hokianga District
in the Far North of New Zealand and from wider afield attended a presentation by the author and for
afternoon tea.  The author, Dr. Kenneth Baker, spoke of the research in which he identified the names
of over one thousand Belgian citizens living under the German occupation who helped Allied soldiers,
what they did and how they did it, and some of the surprise findings.  The author also held a
book-signing and a large number of books were sold with all benefits  going to the New Zealand
Pilgrimage Trust.
Note: Dr Baker's family originated from the Hokianga District.  The Hokianga
Historical Society Museum has won awards for its displays commemorating the role of the District in
WW1 and remembering the large number of men from there who took part.
